Mandi has been involved with track and field as an athlete and a coach since 1985. She is a Geelong Guild life member, and our current Coaching Coordinator and has coached many National and International level athletes in her coaching journey, however she is equally as adept at nurturing young athletes, and always gets a kick out of seeing athletes achieve Personal and Seasons Bests. Mandi also accepts athletes with disabilities to her training squad.

Nick Hodg, Geelong Guild Athletic Club

Dr Nick Hodgson – Long & Triple Jump

Nick Hodgson is our resident Long and Triple Jump coach. He has been involved in elite level horizontal jumps since the ‘80s and is an Athletics Australia Accredited Level 3 Jumps Coach and Level 2 Advanced Sprints, Hurdles and Relays Coach and was ranked in the top 8 in Australia in Triple Jump as a young man and was part of an elite jumps squad. Nick has always had some involvement in the coaching side of jumps having designed his own training programs and through helping Schools, Little, Junior and Senior Athletes, and has been running a highly successful junior training squad for over 5 years.

Hamish Nelson – Pole Vault

Hamish Nelson is a National level decathlete, who was a former World Junior representative who has been competing for Geelong Guild for many years. Owing to his multi-event roots, Hamish has a keen interest in all events and took over the majority of pole vault coaching in Geelong in 2014. While the pole vault squad numbers have increased significantly over the past 6 seasons, all athletes are welcome to come and give pole vault a try!

Stewart Poulter – Sprints & Horizontal Jumps

Stewart Poulter has been coaching sprints and horizontal jumps for Geelong Guild for about the last 5 seasons. In his younger days he was a national level sprinter, has been drawn back to the sport by his sons showing promise as sprinters themselves. He currently coaches a quality squad who compete at club, state and national level, and has also coached relay teams to Regional and State Championships.

Bob, Geelong Guild Athletic Club

Bob Holzer – Throws

Bob Holzer is our expert throws coach, however specialises in the hammer throw and javelin. Over the years he has coached a number of athletes to State Titles and National level competitions, with one of his recent coaching highlights being the coach of his National Bronze Medal winning granddaughter in the hammer throw. Bob has been involved in athletics as an athlete and coach for over 50 years, still competing in the throws events and regularly taking out gold medals in his age group at the Australian Masters Championships.

Cindy Holzer – U8-U15 Age Group – All Events

Cindy Holzer focusing on coaching of athletes between in the age groups between U8 and U15, teaching the fundamentals of ‘Run, Jump, Throw’. Her sessions are positive and inclusive, and aim to give young athletes confidence and skill in their chosen events. She also delivers the IAAF Kids’ Athletics Program in local schools and has been a successful relay coach at Regional and State Championships. Cindy is also a Geelong Guild athlete and has previously won Gold Medals in her age group in various events at the Australian Masters Championships.

Matthew Wade – Relays & Sprints

Matt Wade has been coaching sprints, middle distance and relays at Geelong Guild for over 10 years, he has also been the Geelong Guild Team Manager for much of that time. Matt has relocated to Canberra at the start of the 2019/20 season, but has still maintained an active interest in a number of the Geelong Guild athletes, as well as travelling down to Geelong and Melbourne to coach the Geelong Guild senior teams at the Victorian Relay Championships.

Micheal Tomas, Geelong Guild Athletic Club  

Michael Thomas – Little Athletics squad training

Michael has coached the Geelong Guild Junior squad (U8 – U12) since 2018. The junior squad training promotes fun, friendship and fitness. All Little Athletic events / disciplines are covered across the season program with an aim of getting the ‘basic’s right’. The junior squad train at Deakin University Waurn Ponds campus on a Monday night during the Little Athletics season. Michael competed for Geelong Guild in the early 1990s with more passion than talent!
